About

mpumalanga-ydd

The Youth Development office was primarily established to mitigate the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality which ravage approximately 45% young women and men. The unit should continue to ensure that the lives of young people are improved through rigorous implementation of the National Youth Policy, Provincial Human Resource Development Strategy and the Youth Employment Accord.

The office, under the leadership of Honourable Premier Refilwe Mtshweni, is also tasked with the responsibility to maximise the mainstreaming of government policies and plans promoting youth development. The plans are periodically monitored and evaluated to ascertain the efficacy of government interventions in improving the lives of young people across the province.

The facilitation and Coordination of Youth Rights and Development anchored in the Provincial Programme of Action, will continue to be the fundamental responsibility of the Youth Development Unit in Mpumalanga.

Area of excellence

Mpumalanga Youth Development – Programme of Action (POA)

The Province is among the few provinces in the country that produced a comprehensive Youth Development Programme of Action (POA). The POA seeks to ensure relevance and responsiveness to the challenges faced by the youth of the Province and the Country as a whole. The POA is radical and more innovative and it inculcates a culture and practice of integration and multi-sectoral approach.

The programmes currently being implemented under the POA are:

  • Mpumalanga Youth Development Portal
  • Future Miners Incubation Programme (www.futureminers.co.za)
  • Mpumalanga Youth Development Coordinating Committee
